ETA313-02: Theory lesson 1: Electric components

Back to course information

Recommended reading: KonCEPT page 5-83 (chapter 1&2)

In this course sqrt(-1) is banned! We do not know how to derivate/integrate… and so on.

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler

This first lesson covers all components except the most difficult one, the transmission line. It is covered in the antenna lesson.

  • Ohms Law. U = RI, P=UI, thermal efficiency (mu).
  • Resistors (R)
    • get hot
    • P = RI^2 = U^2/R
    • potentiometers
  • Decibel: x dB = 10 log (power level / reference power level) = 10 log ( [voltage^2/R]/[ref voltage^2/R] ) = 20 log (voltage/ref voltage)
  • AC/DC/frequency/period time/wavelength= 300 / f [MHz]
  • Capacitors (C)
    • Z = 1/(2*pi*f*c)
    • Energy stored = C *V^2/2
    • Bleeder resistors
    • Polarization
  • Inductors (L)
    • Z=2*pi*f*L
    • Energy stored = L*I^2/2
    • Use two-pole switches
    • Transformers
  • Memristors are ignored
  • Series and parallel connections of R/L/C
  • Time domain and frequency domain → filters (Focus less on this next time)
    • Low pass RC or LC
    • High pass CR or CL
    • Band pass (L+C)
    • Band stop (L+C)
    • All-pass!?
  • Resonance
    • parallel resonance
    • Series resonance
    • Q
    • Crystals
  • Electron tubes
    • Diode
    • Triode
  • Semiconductors
    • Diode
    • Zener diode
    • Bipolar transistor, PNP, NPN, current gain
    • MOSFET transistor, n-channel, p-channel.
  • Rectification
    • u_peak_DC = u_rms_AC*sqrt(2) = u_peak_AC
